On the Thursday evening before Easter, I headed down to Surrey to pick up the newest member of our family, Hendrix.
My husband and I had been speaking for year about getting a dog. Actually, it was more me pestering him and asking him when we were going to get one. I have been pretty patient - it's been about 4-5 years that I've been asking for a pet. However, right now just seemed like the right time.
It's definitely not a decision to be taken lightly. We have thought about this over and over again. It's a huge commitment as this little pup is something we're going to have to look after for a very long time. We decided on a Pomeranian for several reasons:
1. They're small. We needed something small because we live in a flat. It just seemed like the most likely choice for us. I already have a chihuahua in Dubai so I wanted to try out a different breed. Plus, I've had my eye on a Pomeranian for quite some time.
2. They're supposed to be good with young kids. When that time does eventually come for us, we do not want a dog that will be aggressive. Pomeranians are meant to be quite affectionate and welcoming to young kids. Actually, they seem to get along with anyone.
3. Because of their size, they're cheaper to feed, maintain and look after.
I did quite a bit of research before finally taking the plunge! He's definitely been a ball of entertainment and it's literally like having a new baby. I can't help but miss him when he's not around or if I'm not home.
